Installment Payment Plan
The university offers payment plans to assist students and their families in making payments over time for fall and spring semesters. Payment plans are not available for winter and summer semesters.
Open University students are not eligible.
Special Session students (excluding SJSU Online) can email student-finance-specialists@sjsu.edu to request a payment plan.
Are You Enrolled in the Current Semester?
Use the Enrolled Student Installment Payment Plan (Enrolled IPP) in MySJSU.

- How to sign up for the housing fees payment plan in MySJSU [pdf]
Either plan has a $35 IPP enrollment fee.
You can sign up for both plans if you need. The number of installments depends on the date you enroll in the plan. Enroll in an IPP before making your first payment.
Not Enrolled?
If you have a past-due unpaid balance, use the Non-Enrolled Student Installment Payment Plan (Non-Enrolled IPP) in MySJSU. Enrolling will prevent your account from being sent to a collection agency, but it will not remove any existing registration or diploma holds.
Qualification Requirements:
- Cannot be enrolled in current or upcoming terms
- $35 one-time setup fee
- Must sign a Terms and Conditions Agreement
- Minimum balance requirements:
- 3-month plan: $350.00
- 6-month plan: $1,000.00
- 9-month plan: $2,000.00
- 12-month plan: $3,000.00
If you are interested, e-mail student-finance-specialists@sjsu.edu to begin the process. When your plan is activated, you can log in to your payment account to make payments online via credit card or ACH (direct debit from your bank account) and set up recurring payments. Other payment methods, including in-person, drop box, or mail, are available. Review our Methods of Payment page for more information.
Payment Plan Details
The initial payment includes fees that must be paid by your payment due date and are not included in the installments.
Initial payment fees:
- campus mandatory fees
- optional SIRF fee
- First Day Solutions charges (e-books)
- miscellaneous class fees
You must have a minimum of $1,000 in eligible charges to qualify for the payment plan. Eligible charges include:
- tuition fees
- non-California resident tuition fees
- graduate business professional program fees.
When you enroll in an IPP, all eligible charges are divided into installments. If new charges post after any installment payments have been made, the new charges will be spread out over the rest of the installments.
If you add or drop a class and your full-time or part-time status changes, it will affect your account. Check your MySJSU account after any charges to see the updated installment balances and due dates.
Payment Due Dates
On-time payments are part of the IPP terms and agreement. If you fail to pay on time, SJSU may place a past-due hold, preventing you from enrolling in future classes and receiving a diploma.
It is your responsibility to drop all classes prior to the first day of the term in order not to owe a debt to SJSU. Refunds follow the rules on the Refunds information page.
